Tues: Dollar steady, yen near 2-week low; Japan's April PPI unchanged, buoyed by higher crude oil prices.

The dollar was steady on Tuesday and the yen was hovering near a two-week low. Japan's PPI was unchanged in April from the previous month, as higher crude oil prices maintained inflationary pressure.
Finance minister Shunichi Suzuki played down the market's focus on a specific exchange rate level, but he stressed the need to take action to "smooth out" excessive fluctuations in the forex market.
According to the latest Bloomberg survey, almost 75% of the respondents said the greenback was the best haven currency, with the Swiss franc getting 23% of the vote and the Japanese yen far behind.
