Job creation in November bounced back from the prior month as the effects of a strike at Boeing and hurricanes in the Southeast receded, the BLS said. Worker pay continued to rise, up 0.4%emonth on month.
Nonfarm payrolls increased by 227,000 for the month, compared with an upwardly revised 36,000 in October and a consensus estimate for 214,000. The unemployment rate edged higher to 4.2% as expected.
Despite rosy business sentiment, Trump promises to raise tariffs on imports and carry out mass deportations of migrants have raised concerns of higher prices and labour supply disruptions.
