CAC 40 is the benchmark index for the French stock market. This index is based on the EuronextParis, formerly known as the Paris Stock Exchange, is the market value weighted index of the 40 most important stocks among the 100 largest by market value. It is one of the main national indices of the Euronext group, alongside the BEL20 index in Brussels, the PSI-20 index in Lisbon, and the AEX index in Amsterdam.

The most international major index
Although CACThe 40 Index is almost entirely composed of companies registered in France, but about 45% of its listed stocks are held by foreign investors, which is higher than other major European indices. German, Japanese, US, and UK investors are CACThe main holders of 40 stocks. The reason why this proportion is so high is because CAC 40 is more international or multinational than any other market in Europe. CAC40 companies have over two-thirds of their business and over two-thirds of their workforce outside of France.
