History

"May our service to you be your standard of measure."

Service - personal, customized, expert - has been at the core of Eastern Book Company's business philosophy since 1957 when Samuel Macisso first founded the business. For more than 50 years we have been distributing news, information and books from our headquarters in Southern Maine.

As he grew his business and began to meet the information and news demands of a larger clientele, Sam realized that academic libraries had a unique need for a large variety of book titles. He was soon meeting the customized needs of library customers up and down the East Coast. By 1959 Eastern Book Company was one of the few distributors in the U.S. capable of fulfilling complex orders for institutions.

Sam's grandsons, Richard and Stephen Coyne began running Eastern Book Company in 1983. Meeting customer needs with the same level of commitment as their grandfather did, they invest in the efficiencies of technology to offer the best selection of books and fast order fulfillment for academic, public and government libraries.

At Eastern Book Company, we continue to measure our success through our service to customers, building personalized relationships supported by the latest in proven technology to meet growing demand.
